The Election Commission (ECI) has removed the Home Secretaries of six states, including Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Bihar, alongside the Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal, ahead of the impending Lok Sabha general elections commencing from April 19. The ECI's decision includes the removal of Home Secretaries in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, as well as the Secretaries of General Administrative Department in Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh.
The ECI, under CEC Rajiv Kumar, also ordered the removal of Brihanmumbai municipal commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, along with additional commissioners and deputy commissioners.
The Election Commission has mandated the transfer of officials involved in election-related duties who have served for three years or are stationed in their respective home districts.
Meanwhile, the West Bengal government has forwarded three candidates for the position of the state's next DGP: Sanjay Mukherjee, Ranveer Kumar, and Dr. Rajesh Kumar, among whom one will be appointed to succeed the outgoing DGP.
